Presently we produce mostly f2 kittens.  Having been active in the cat fancy for many years, I've learned a lot about breeding and the importance of keeping and producing type.  The Savannah is supposed to be bred within the guidelines of a Savannah Standard that has been accepted by TICA.  You will notice how closely the 'look' or 'type' of my kittens resemble the African Serval.  This is not by accident, it is by breeding together the correct two cats to achieve the desired look.  

There are far too many Savannah Breeders these days that are not taking the pains necessary to breed toward the standard.  In many cases, they are breeding their f1 females back to purebred males of some breed, mostly bengals.  Breedings like this adds too much of a percentage of another breed into the kitten.  It will take away the desired look and produce what I consider a bad bengal considering it is now 75% bengal.  It puts undesired recessive genetics into our bloodlines i.e. glitter, rosetting, small ears, concave profiles, etc.

If you are only wanting a pet by all means choose the kitten that touches your heart.  If you are wanting to enter into a breeding program.  Please do your research before purchase and plan your program to help the breed progress.

These are my two keepers for 2002 season.  They are f2 savannah females.  The little silver is Kylee  (Kenya x Karoo) and the golden is Amee (Zulah x Karoo).  Pictured as 3 week olds and then again at about 6 months.

Raja was from my very first litter of f2 savannah's.  He is a  Zulah x Karoo kitten.  Pictured before he left my home and then again after he grew up.  What a magnificent fella!

This beautiful f2 girl is from Zazu and Karoo.  Notice the black nose like a serval's.  She is still considered a brown spotted tabby even though her colors are really cool.

This litter was Xena x Karoo.  The colors are all different variations of the brown spotted tabby.  Notice the cheetah tear markings on the little dark female.  This is a serval trait along with the black nose.

This is a little melanastic f2 from Zazu x Karoo.  TICA only accepts 3 colors of Savannah's...melanastic, silver, and brown.  The spotted pattern is also the only pattern accepted by TICA for Evaluation.

F1 Savannah produced by successfully breeding one of our queens with a friend's serval.  What fun this little fella was to raise!!

Day two...

We are falling more and more in love!  Still no name yet but we are thinking hard about it.  He has to be the most loving animal I have ever seen.  I was a bit concerned about my 2 year old daughter and her being a bit rough with him but it is amazing to see them together.  They spent most of the day playing together and when he would get tired he would just want to cuddle up somewhere.  This photo is him sleeping in my daughter's lap while she was doing her artwork today.  She would move around and he would just reposition himself and try to sleep every time she made a big movement.  He is just a cuddly fellow!  I hope this lasts beyond the kitten stage!
